Walnut City

Design Refresh

A fairly new design when we started working on the second edition, this series of labels served a Willamette Valley tier family of wines.

The market response to the original concept had been positive. The coordinating varietal-assigned colors on a coaster-like square shape were both unique and identifiable. The effect was warm and unpretentious, but there was more to be explored with the design.

To bring all the elements of the label together we started by changing the wood grain. A two color gradient map over a walnut texture brought the background to life and created a pigmented stained effect. The center logo was enlarged, and the walnut was inverted and resized to be more recognizable. The line work was drawn to have a natural flow and a new font was selected for a more assertive presence. All the elements were blended, shadowed, beveled (to align with the Reserve label aesthetic) and inlaid with white for a carved effect.
