Photo Editing : Before & After
The Lundeen Tree
Central tenets – family, community, and environment – have guided Lundeen Wines for over 20 years. It was important that I captured that in the website design.
In the summer of 2022, Lundeen Wines brought family, friends, club members and customers together for a vineyard party on the family farm. I was fortunate to have a talented photographer capturing the fun. One of his pictures really stuck me and I knew it had to become an element of the homepage. When I’m working with great images from the start, the impact of minor edits and adjustments can be quite profound. I wanted to use the ‘Lundeen Tree’ image as an example of how I might approach photo editing for a website image.
Very minor adjustments were made to the original image. I removed the chair and wine barrel from the background to keep the focus on the tree itself. Some front facing light was added to bring out detail and make the tree and framed pictures pop with a more forward posture. There was one small photo of Winemaker, Michael Lundeen, with his father and son. It’s been an iconic image over the years, so I enlarged it to be a bit more recognizable. I desaturated the blue reflection out of the lower images and brought up the intensity of the black for a bit more drama. To finish off, I cropped the new image slightly differently and warmed up the temperature a bit for site consistency. The end result was exactly what I wanted for the homepage while remaining true to the original.
